Experience: Mitch has held positions across multiple sectors and has spent time in both local and state government, state peak bodies, regional primary health care commissioning bodies, international humanitarian work and independent consultancy prior to co-founding Beacon Strategies.
Interests: Professionally, Mitch is particularly interested in systems level approaches to overcoming health inequity, early intervention and designing health and social services to best meet the needs of the community. Personally, when not attached to a computer, Mitch enjoys catching up with friends and family over asian food, watching obscure documentaries about people leading weird and wonderful lives and planning future international adventures.

Experience: Elliot has demonstrated experience in leading high-quality planning, design and evaluation projects across a range of health and social issues, including mental health, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs, chronic disease, housing and homelessness, child protection, and financial and social inclusion. Prior to co-founding Beacon Strategies, Elliot worked in roles in state and local government that involved planning, implementing and evaluating projects that aimed to improve the environments in which people live and work.
Interests: Professionally, Elliot is passionate about enabling people and organisations to make a positive impact—using insight from data, people’s stories and context to challenge existing ways of working and build more effective models of social change. Personally, some of Elliot’s favourite things are food, friends and family, reading, big cities, listening to inspiring people, politics, anything to do with outer space, and trying to learn Japanese.
Rebecca Patterson, Projects and Partnerships Lead.
Role: Senior Consultant.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Media and Communications (Honours) as well as a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact and Development Practice.
Experience: Professionally Rebecca has held senior positions in Local Government over the last 12 years. Spending significant time working across community development, safety, homelessness, disaster management and seniors, ageing and disabilities within Brisbane City Council, Redland City Council and City of Gold Coast.
Interests: Professionally, Rebecca is interested in Social impact, Health and Ageing and Policy Making. Personally, Rebecca enjoys being outdoors, spending time with her friends and family and reading.
Qualification: Bachelor of Public Health (Biology), currently studying post-graduate health economics.
Experience: For over ten years Mearon has worked across the Australian health and not for profit sector in Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra in a number of roles. Mearon has worked in project based roles with organisations such as the Australian College of Nursing, the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, Australian National University, Capital Health Network and Redkite leading regional and national projects alongside experienced policy experts, clinicians, researchers and consumers. In addition to her experience in Australia, Mearon has also worked on international projects based in Canada, Ethiopia and South Africa during her work at McGill University whilst living in Montreal, Canada.
Interests: Professionally, Mearon is passionate about equity in access to health care, evidence based policy and then consumer voice in health care design and decision making. She has a special interest in women's and sexual and reproductive health. When she’s not working, Mearon loves to read books, go to live music gigs, travel and spend time with family and friends. She is also a massive Suncorp Super Netball fan.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Arts (Psychology extended major) and Bachelor of Health Sciences (Public Health major)
Experience: Amber has worked for both non-profit and public sector organisations within portfolios ranging from reproductive health, rural and remote medicine, child and youth wellbeing, healthy ageing and homelessness. She has undertaken roles in advocacy, service planning, commissioning and integrated governance.
Interests: Professionally, Amber is interested in the policy and service level implications on the social determinants of health. Personally, Amber is an avid hiker, enjoys foodie holidays and learning about winemaking.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Health Science (major in Public Health), Master of Public Health (current).
Experience: Work experience at Down Syndrome Australia (QLD branch), Administration Officer at Revive Physiotherapy clinic, Pharmacy Dispense Technician at Amcal and Priceline pharmacies, Active volunteer with the Children's Hospital Foundation.
Interests: Lili holds a strong interest in mental health related work. In the future, Lili is aiming to pursue a career in medicine, grounded in a strong public health foundation. Personally Lili is passionate about putting smiles on kids faces through volunteer work and getting outdoors and travelling on her weekends.

Experience: Tommy has recently finished his bachelor’s degree and has experience working with the Beacon Strategies team to support the delivery of high quality projects. Additionally, Tommy supports our partner organisations to identify and catalogue funding opportunities. In a previous life, Tommy has spent over 3 years’ working as a senior sales associate in the technology retail sector.
Interests: Professionally, Tommy is interested in increasing physical activity and improving the mental health of the broader community and is excited to increase his knowledge in a number of topic areas at Beacon Strategies. Personally, Tommy enjoys being physically active, using current and new technology, watching movies and listening to music - especially movie soundtracks.
Beth Burgess, Communications, Engagement and Change Specialist.
Role: Communications, Engagement and Change Specialist
Qualifications: Bachelor of Business Communications, IAP2 Practitioner.
Experience: Beth is a leader within the communication and stakeholder engagement field having spent almost 20 years facilitating, guiding and implementing communication and engagement outcomes on a range of projects for local, state and federal governments, for corporates and charities.
Interests: Building relationships, connecting people and communities for better outcomes. Facilitating change, leadership and diversity are all areas of interest for Beth in her role. Personally Beth enjoys cooking and house plants.
