Implementing a Mental Health Practice Framework: Wesley Mission Queensland

Status: Current - expected to be completed early 2022

Client: Wesley Mission Queensland

Background

In 2019, Beacon Strategies supported Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) to develop a Mental Health Practice Framework based on engagement with WMQ staff and a review of leading practice.

The Framework aims to provide guidance for WMQ leaders and staff on how to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for people across all WMQ program and service areas. It outlines what good practice looks like, key leadership and practice actions, and enabling systems and processes.

In developing the framework, we identified that applying the principles and content to align with the unique goals and context of each WMQ service stream and business unit was a key component of implementing the framework.

With this in mind, we were engaged by WMQ to lead an implementation and change management process throughout 2021 to guide the implementation process, identify learnings and enable replication across the business in the longer term.

Approach

Our project approach involves working with three selected WMQ program areas to each develop a change management plan outlining specific activities to embed the framework’s actions in their everyday practice.

Each of these three demonstration projects will be guided and supported by our project team and an implementation steering group with internal subject matter experts from across WMQ.

Check out the video below from when our team visited one of our demonstration project sites, Dovetree residential aged care facility, for a change planning workshop.

Recognising the importance of organisational learning, we will share tips and resources captured throughout the project with the broader organisation to assist with embedding the framework across all program areas.

Stay tuned to see how this project is carried out and the outcomes we are able to achieve working alongside our valued partners at Wesley Mission Queensland.
