‘Move it NQ’ Evaluation for North Queensland Sports Foundation

Status: Completed March 2023

Client: North Queensland Sports Foundation

Background

The Move it NQ Review was split over two discrete project components listed below, as well as activities that had reflected achieved outcomes and possible future outcomes.

The ‘Move It NQ’ evaluation was split over two discrete project components.

Component 1 sought to objectively define and understand program outcomes while component 2 was to provide support to NQ Sports to plan for future evaluation efforts, gain clarity on strategic growth and develop a compelling pitch.

The rest of the evaluation aims were to:

  • Conduct a retrospective review of the project to understand relevant outcomes and impacts and identify opportunities for strengthening program design (program evaluation).

  • Develop a forward-facing evaluation framework and resources to guide evaluation activities into the future (evaluation framework and resources).

  • Showcase program strengths and opportunities in a prospectus to promote support for the program (program prospectus).

  • Develop a work plan to strategically guide program improvements and growth relating to key partners and funders such as PHNs (work plan).

Approach

The ‘Move It NQ’ evaluation was delivered through the project phases listed below:

  • Phase 1: project establishment — defined ‘the situation’ and developed key project management documentation, enabling visibility of project deliverables, timelines and accountabilities

  • Phase 2: evaluation planning — understand how ‘Move It NQ’ was intended to lead to desired changes (e.g. program logic and program theory) and developed an evaluation framework to guide evaluation activities.

  • Phase 3: evaluation activities — delivered qualitative and quantitative evaluation activities outlined in the evaluation framework e.g. quantitative data analysis and engagement with staff and community members.

  • Phase 4: evaluation report — we undertook an analysis of outputs and outcomes against the evaluation questions outlined in the evaluation framework and produced an internal-facing evaluation report.

  • Phase 5: summary products — developed a suite of summary products to support the ongoing evaluation of Move it NQ, provided advice about implementing identified program improvements and effectively communicated the program’s value proposition.

Project Impact & Outcomes

The final product was a forward-facing evaluation framework and resources to guide future evaluation activities, as well as a work plan to strategically guide program improvements and growth.

By supporting North Queensland Sports Foundation to understand the outcomes of Move It NQ, the program could be refined and improved in its next iteration.

This would result in more people being able to access the Move It NQ program and participate in physical activities across the region.
